Abstract
Objectives
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of 980-nm diode laser treatment on oral venous lakes (OVLs).
Patients and methods
Between January 2020 and December 2021, eleven patients, suffering from OVL in the lip and cheek regions, were treated with a 980-nm diode laser. The parameters were set as follows: average power of 4 W, tip size of 300 μm, spot diameter size of 3 mm, irradiation distance of 2–3 mm, and speed of tip movement over the lesion 1 mm/s, continuous-wave mode, sequential treatment versus. The power density of this surgery was 56.6 W/cm2. The patients were followed up for 6 months. Treatment results were scored on a 4-point scale. Adverse reactions after laser treatment were evaluated and managed.
Results
Seven of the 11 patients received one diode laser treatment and 4 received two treatments. According to postoperative follow-up, 9 patients (81.8%) showed excellent response, and 2 patients (18.2%) showed a good response.
Conclusion
The diode laser treatment is highly effective for the treatment of venous lakes in the lip and cheek regions. Therefore, this method could provide a new treatment option for OVL.
