Abstract
Oral myiasis is a rare parasitic infestation of vital tissue of humans or other mammals by dipterous larvae (maggots) encountered in developing tropical countries owing to poor hygiene and financial deprivation. This disease often manifests in humid climate along with local factors, such as poor oral hygiene, debilitating conditions, alcoholism and poor quality of living favor the growth of larvae which predisposes toward the disease. It is mostly associated with various medical conditions, such as maxillofacial trauma, mental retardation with neglected households, poor oral hygiene and cancerous wounds. Herein, we report two cases of oral myiasis in elderly males with a patient of squamous cell carcinoma and a chronic alcoholic patient with a history of trauma managed by manual removal of larvae by topical application of turpentine oil, surgical debridement of oral wound and systemic therapy with ivermectin.
